Challenge 2

Interface Development

(First of all, make sure you have a very good undestanding of what an STK SIM toolkit is - take a look back to the notes on STK SIM toolkits.

Among things to say in an intoductory paragraph is to make sure you convey your understanding og STK toolkits; that they themselves are not doing most of the functions, rather they are instruction the phone OS (operating sysetem) what parts of it it wants to make use of.

Though the one specific category of thing that the STK SIM toolkit will bring additionally to the phone is extra security for transmissions.

Then, center your response around a labled/annotated diagram (see an example Martina and I worked out down below to get a general idea of what your exm response could look like - with fleshed out text)

I. Make a visual of the GUI and label it

II. Describe it, likely as follows.

The main thing is to consider is it's for the developing world, so:

(Phone) Step 1A the first time used: Select language.

(Phone) Step 1: The first screen is Authentication:

How? Or is it necessary, since they are using their own phone, registered with the service provider... Actually, should require authentication, otherwise problems when phone stolen.

But the issue of phone stolen, then need to be password protected - so lock the phone after a certain number of attempts. If person forgets, they can go to the service provider and prove who they are to get it unlocked

Kinds of authentication possible:

- password - yes

- image to recognize - no, not enough pixels on phone display

- biometrics - no

- security question - yes

- unique user name (like 23iyui2348) - yes

Then, trying to keep things simple, and sticking with a strategy of having them make "binary" decisions (of only one thing or another) through the process of using the app;

Step 2: Select task Exampls: 1. Get Info, 2. Cash Transfer, 3. Pay bill, 4. Currency conversion, 5. Check balance

Idea is that on each screen, the user would press a number on the physical keypad of the phone, plus Enter or Back

Step 2A. Get Info

- limit it to one account only

Step 2B. Cash Transfer

ETC.

III. What about differences between devices and operating systems

- Here talk about other things that would have to be considered when designing.

- But should be able to rely on basic common features of first generation mobile phones, which all worked basically the same way (by choosing a number from listed options, plus Enter or Back.

IV. Summary paragraph about why you chose what you did for your design.

So here is a picture or Martina's plan of what to put in the exam paper. Note firstly the good idea of doing it over two pages, with the exam booklet opened up, and also note that in this image, the text is not fully written out yet. Rough planning notes by me are on the paper to the left.
